Tourist Dies After Being Swept Off Rocks In Queensland

Efforts to recover the body of a woman swept away in flood waters in Queensland's far north will resume on Wednesday.

Police were called to Josephine Falls, an hour's drive south of Cairns, about 5pm (AEST) on Tuesday after receiving reports a woman was stranded in the swollen river.

Police said initial reports from witnesses suggest the woman, believed to be a Korean national, was washed into the middle of the river after sliding down a rock face.

She was then swept further downstream and out of sight.

Her body was found around an hour later, but poor weather at the popular tourist spot hampered efforts to retrieve it.

Retrieval efforts will begin again on Wednesday morning.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
