Georgie’s had a lot of different jobs.
“I did LOTS of different jobs before coming here!”
Georgie flipped around to face me in her mother’s antique, Edwardian study chair. Her hair was wild and untamed, a complete match for the ferocity held within her steely gaze.
“I flipped burgers, sold hand bags and served coffees. I even hosted some animal shows at Australia Zoo!”
“Lucky Animals” I muttered to myself, while trying to hide my perspiring forehead and unnaturally tight collar.
Georgie continued teasing with the slow pace at which she annunciated her well-chosen words.
“The job at the zoo was cool. Except for the one day a week I had to entertain children while dressed in a fluffy whale costume on a 30+ degree day!”
Not cool. I agreed.
“After starring as an extra in an outdoor furniture advertisement... I'd reached my peak. Now it was time to get a "real" job. “
Instead of getting a real job, Georgie quickly found herself in the hurly-burly of professional radiology radiolism …. being on the radio.
“As a kid I made my own radio shows on tape deck. And it's probably a good thing that those tapes have now been destroyed. So I thought I'd live out my childhood dream and work in radio!
“My first radio job was in Perth, which people say is like Brisbane. The only similarity is that it's a capital city, which has people living in it...There's no place like Brisvegas! Who doesn't love really sweaty summers?! Oh the humidity! But seriously…..”
Seriously indeed.
Before finishing the interview, I asked whether she had any special talents that the people of Brisbane might not yet know.
“I can fit an incredible 5 Brisbane clichés in just on sentence,” she replied with a mischievous grin.
“I find that very hard to believe Georgie.” I sarcastically replied. “I am afraid I will need some proof.”
“No problem at all,” she retorted, all the while keeping some of the most unnerving eye contact.
“I love nothing more than chilling out in New Farm Park, walks along the Brisbane River, watching the Queensland Reds win at Suncorp Stadium and celebrating that win later on in Caxton Street!”
DING DING DING we have a winner. I was blown away.
You can hear Georgie on 97.3FM every weekday from 9AM.
