Samuel Johnson Held The Highest Honour At Connie's Funeral

Yesterday, the family of breast cancer victim, Connie Johnson OAM, farewelled her in a private funeral in Canberra.

While Samuel Johnson is best known as Connie’s sidekick in raising funds and awareness for cancer, his biggest and most important role came during the service.

“I was assigned my most important job yesterday at the funeral,” Sam told Bianca, Terry and Dan this morning. “Willoughby, Connie’s oldest boy asked to sit next to me at the service, so, that was the most important job I’ve ever had. That was a great honour.”

Connie’s children Willoughby (10) and Hamilton (9) “will be fine and are very well supported”, Sam said of his nephews. “Now they can move on with their lives without that daily trauma.”

“I’ve looked at it as an opportunity for them really, because they haven’t known life without Mum being sick. So there is a weight off their shoulders as well.”

“It’s obviously a sad time for anyone to lose a loved one,” Sam said, “But you know, I’m strong, I’ve got her in me now and if that makes any sense at all and I’m feeling more motivated. I feel really grateful and I’m pretty lucky to have had her and I just feel like a brother, I jackpotted ya know?”
