With a big weekend of footy finals ahead, it's easy to get carried away and gouge yourself on beer, nuts and other unhealthy options.

To make sure you enjoy the game without having to worry about the post-match bulge, we asked 97.3fm's resident dietician, Desi Carlos, to give us some healthy footy food alternatives.

Keep on track with these yummy suggestions:

  • Burritos - lite tortilla, red kidney beans and tomatoes, add extra lean beef and reduced fat cheese... add some extra light sour cream
  • Hot potato chips - McCains oven fries or wedges - healthy choices... add salsa, reduced fat cheese, mashed avocado... and add paprika or cayenne pepper for spice
  • Skinless chicken - hot chicken with skin removed or chicken kebabs
  • Corn on the cob
  • Baked pita bread pieces (cut up pita and place under the grill) served with low fat dips
  • Home made pizza - pita bread with veges, lean deli meat and light mozzarella cheese
  • Air-popped popcorn
  • Pretzels
  • Low fat sausages - lean beef on the BBQ with tomato sauce on a bread roll... add mustard, dry fried onions and mushrooms

And if you'd rather not cook try these takeaway options:

  • Nandos
  • Grill'd
  • Pizza Capers (low fat pizzas of course!)
  • Dominos (again low fat options)
  • Subway (low fat options)
