The Headlines That Had A Former Champion In Tears

As the swimming wrapped up at the Games over the weekend we started hearing headlines like ‘The Greatest Choke In Olympic History’.

Despite making it to Rio where they represented Australia with pride – no matter how many medals they brought home, not everyone thought it was enough.

It’s a topic that had Robin worked up and she wasn’t alone!

With calls to reassess Australia’s training and funding in the lead up to the Games, Robin wanted to know – is success measured in medals?

While there were some who answered the $27 million question with “yes”, former 800m medallist Julie McDonald gave us a completely different perspective.

Brought to tears by the headlines, Julie was quick to point out the injustice of what happened to Cate Campbell immediately following her swim.

“I want to see how many of them get out of the pool and get shoved a microphone in their face and say ‘how do you feel’ when you haven’t done up to your expectations?

“You have to realise these athletes have great expectations on themselves as well.”

If you ever wondered what it’s like for the athletes who are training and giving their life to their sport, prepare to gain some insight!

Listen to the call that will make you think twice about the true price of getting to Rio…
