Almost a year on from his tragic passing, Avicii’s first posthumous track titled ‘SOS’ has been released.

The song features Aloe Blacc, who the late DJ previously worked on the mega-hit ‘Wake Me up’ with.

It’s reported that Avicii, also known by his real name Tim Bergling, had written in some personal notes that he wanted the song recorded with Blacc, and the DJ’s collaborators reached out to the singer to record it.

“I feel like ‘SOS’ was a song that was probably ahead of its time for when he wrote it,” Blacc said of the song in a statement.

“He wrote these lyrics obviously about some of his battles and I think it’s a really important topic to approach and to share, especially with his visibility and his access to ears and hearts. To give people the words to be able to say ’I need help.’”

It was released along with a music video that featured words of praise for the artist from his fans.

The latest single is the first to be released from the album that Avicci had been working on before his death at the age of 28 in April 2018.

The posthumous album is titled Tim and is due to be released on June 6, with all net proceeds set to go to the nonprofit founded in his name, the Time Burgling Foundation, which works to prevent mental illness and suicide.

The album is set to feature contributions from Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Cal Falk, Albin Nedler, Kristoffer Fogelmark and others.
