Squid Game has broken yet another record becoming Netflix’s biggest debut hit. 

The South Korean survival drama series was watched by a whopping 111 million users in its first 28 days, knocking Bridgerton from the top spot with 82 million.

The series reached 111 million users in just 27 days, since its release on September 17, beating UK drama Bridgerton, which was streamed by 82 million accounts in its first 28 days.

During an appearance last month, Netflix’s co-chief executive Ted Sarandos was shocked about the popularity of the program.

“We did not see that coming, in terms of its global popularity,” he said.

The series was so popular that South Korean Internet service provider SK Broadband sued Netflix to pay for costs from increased network traffic and maintenance work because of the boom in viewers.

The nine-episode dystopian thriller sees cash-strapped contestants play childhood games with deadly consequences to win $45.6 billion (South Korean won).
