Air New Zealand announced its new non-stop Auckland to New York flight path with a time of 17+ hours today

With a flight time of roughly 17+ hours across 14,000 kms, this new offering will be the airline’s longest route… and the 5th longest in the world!

It has been reported that the new route will run 3 times a week in a 787-9 Dreamliner and first tickets will be on sale in the coming months.

Air New Zealand’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Jeff McDowall says “Visitor growth to New Zealand is strongest from North America and performance of our new service to Chicago is exceeding expectations.”

“New York has been an aspiration for Air New Zealand for some time and withdrawal from the Atlantic will free up aircraft capacity to make this milestone a reality.”

This news comes on the back of Qantas’ recent trial route – Sydney to New York direct. The flight took 19 hours and 16 minutes.
