Kitchen goddess Nigella Lawson has revealed what we thought we already knew: how to butter toast.
The TV chef shared her “two stage buttering approach” on a recent episode of Cook, Eat, Repeat, dare I say, using plain ol’ white sandwich bread as it “makes the best toast in the world.”
First thing we’ve been doing wrong – salted butter.
Lawson says she butters the toast with unsalted butter the minute it pops out of the toaster.
“It will give it a fabulous, crumpet-y bite,” she explains before urging her audience to wait until it cools.

The second stage involves another slathering of more unsalted butter on the slightly cooler toast.
Then, a sprinkling of sea salt flakes over the top of the unsalted butter.
