The man from Killarney died after he was swept away in his car by flash flooding caused by rising waters.

7News Brisbane reports that the 69-year-old farmer was on his property along Condamine Road moving cattle to higher ground last night.

He and his vehicle were consumed by rapidly rising water and were both washed away about 8.30pm.

A search and rescue operation was immediately commenced initiated by QLD Police.

Just after midnight, the man was found in his car deceased 100 metres downstream.

The Killarney region received as much as 133 millimetres of rain in only three hours on Wednesday night.

The banks of the Condamine River broke away as a result of the deluge, local reports say.
